When we released our new Pride Topics into Drops in 37 languages, we became the first app to have language courses dedicated to LGBTQ+ culture and education. We also promised that we’d keep working to magnify queer voices past pride season.
This is why we’re beyond excited to collaborate with UKRAINEPRIDE, a non-profit organization working to protect and advance LGBTQ+ rights in Ukraine.
UKRAINEPRIDE is a queer movement founded by a group of activists, journalists, and artists. Currently, they are collecting donations to help queer Ukrainians that have been affected by the war, while representing Ukraine at different LGBTQ+ events and creating awareness around the effects of the war on the LGBTQ+ community.
You can learn more about them on their website and Instagram account. We also recommend you watch the moving short film they made for Pride 2022.
If you want to learn more about the difficulties queer Ukrainians have been facing, start by listening to this podcast episode.
It all started with an Instagram follow. Our Drops teammates became fans of UKRAINEPRIDE on social media and decided to reach out to see if they could help us translate our four topics on pride and queer culture, gender and pronouns, sexuality, and transitioning. With their translation help and expertise, we were able to make Ukrainian the 38th language to cover the full Pride course.
Watch this short clip about Ukraine Pride and our collaboration with them.
Here are just a few ways to support Ukrainians and/or LGBTQ+ rights:
We wanted to release these topics on September 1st to celebrate The Day of Knowledge in Ukraine, and give more people the words they need to describe their identities and connect with others.
Words matter! With this collaboration, our passion for preserving and celebrating Ukraine’s unique language merged with our determination to give as many people as possible access to the words they need to feel comfortable in their language of choice.
