About Thai
Thai is the only official language of Thailand and it is spoken by somewhere from 20 to 36 million speakers. About half of the language’s vocabulary is borrowed from Pali, Sanskrit, Mon and Old Khmer. Like Chinese and Vietnamese, it is a tonal language. Thai is mutually intelligible with Lao.
